Spring weather is the peak time for allergies. We have noticed some of our students developing hay fever symptoms for the very first time this season.

Please look out for the following signs in your child:

If your child is displaying any of these signs please take them to the G.P and ask for an Allergy Action Plan. If medication is prescribed, please supply your child’s medication to school so that it can be administered when needed.

Without a plan or letter from the GP we are not able to administer any medication.

It may also be a good idea to get an updated asthma or anaphylaxis action plan whilst you are at the GP. We require these plans to be updated every 12 months or on review.

Students with known Hay fever are asked to take antihistamine in the morning before school as a preventative measure, especially when there is a high pollen count.

Our Term 1 and Term 4 Sun Smart Policy states that ALL students must wear a Sirius College school hat while engaging in play in the outdoors. Children rely on adults to provide resources and reminders for sun protection, especially as UV radiation peaks during school hours (noon).

Please ensure your child has a school hat at school every day. Although we encourage “NO HAT, NO PLAY”, if students have no hats, we ask them to play in the shaded or under cover areas. For added protection, your child may bring sunglasses and sunscreen for personal use.
